GreenTech Media reports that NextEra Energy has been looking to its existing solar facilities to add batteries, as it continues to expand into the energy storage industry.
NextEra has been a leader in the growing storage industry. While the United States combined added 430 megawatt of storage capacity to the market in 2019, NextEra plans to build as much as 1,250 megawatts of storage capacity between 2021-2022, according to GreenTech Media.
“We increasingly see storage as an important standalone business in its own right,” said NextEra CEO Jim Robo, who has called the energy storage industry “the next phase of renewables development.”
