President Trump has extended approval for liquified natural gas exports through 2050, reports the Houston Chronicle. The move comes as U.S. LNG exports have increased 65 percent since 2019.
While LNG exports are usually only approved for 20 years at a time, the 30 year extension has been welcomed by the oil and gas industry.
“U.S. LNG exports vie with exports from Qatar, Russia, Canada, Australia, and other nations,” said Fred Hutchison, president of the trade group LNG Allies. “Thirty-year (Department of Energy) authorizations are key to assuring that our producers are able to compete and win in the fiercely competitive market for long-term deals.”
