The company behind the Byhalia Connection pipeline has cancelled development after a complex legal and public relations battle over the location of the pipeline, which was set to run through predominantly black South Memphis neighborhoods, according to the Commercial Appeal.
Opponents worry about the placement of the pipeline and the potential harm to local water supplies, which are pulled deep underground from the Memphis sand aquifer.
