Environmental issues rank as a top concern among independent and moderate voters who will play critical roles in the 2020 election, prompting the GOP to release plans to address climate change, reports Forbes.

Unlike the progressive Green New Deal, which was rejected by members of both parties for being too extreme, the Republican approach to climate change focuses less on government regulation, and more on innovation and technological development.

Forbes reports that many Americans want environmental policies that are both effective and achievable, protecting economic growth alongside the environment. The plans proposed by the GOP, which have received a warm welcome, include more investment in carbon-capture technologies and other ways to improve environmental performance while remaining economically competitive.

That is why Democrats have been forced to adjust their climate policy proposals to include plans to modernize electricity transmission, develop more battery storage technology, and an expansion of competition and consumer choice in power markets.
