Climate and energy experts are strongly urging Texas regulators to prepare the state’s electricity grid for more frequent extreme weather as the effects of climate change begin to take hold, reports the Texas Tribune.
In the aftermath of the February winter storm which sent rolling blackouts across the state, resulting in 210 deaths, Texas regulators have been discussing infrastructure and market changes to prevent a similar event. However, experts are warning against using past weather data to guide changes, cautioning that weather fluctuations and extreme weather will not follow the patterns of the past.
