More and more farmers are beginning to utilize solar power to help power their farming operations while enjoying a much-needed financial cushion, according to St. Louis Public Radio. The ‘Rural Energy for America’ program, a grant program offered by the United States Department of Agriculture which helps farmers develop renewables on their land, has reported a significant increase in grant applications, especially for solar projects. 

Aside from cutting energy expenses, some farmers can make extra cash by selling excess power to utility companies during peak summer months. 

“If we can do projects like this to help our environment, to save our natural resources and take advantage of something that God gives us every day, like the sun, then we need to take advantage of it,” said farmer Chris Bohr.
