Texas and Oklahoma are among the states with the highest amount of abandoned oil and gas wells, and will receive some of the largest shares of new $1 billion funding from the Department of Interior to cap and clean up the abandoned sites, reports the Journal Record.
There are over 3 million abandoned oil and gas wells in the United States that have been exposing nearby communities to air and water pollution for decades.
