Between 2008 and 2019, 22 communities in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia that produce 90% of Appalachian Natural Gas badly trailed the nation in job growth, personal income and population, according to the Ohio River Valley Institute.

The findings show that despite the region’s oil boom, local communities failed to see any economic benefits from the industry they are supporting.
